How early did you start running - When I was 5 years old
Why did you start running? - It made me happy and I still feel incredibly free.
How old were you when you first went to boarding school - I was 15 years old
What is your greatest achievement – The way in which I’ve gained an enormous amount of self-awareness.
What are your parents names - Cecelia is my mother, Norman is my father and Bruce (blue eyes) is my stepfather.
How many brothers and sisters do you have and what are their names – I was born into a family of 5 children that included 2 younger brothers and an older sister and brother.
Do you have any pets - Yes 2 cats that I adore. Billy and Jazz
What is your favorite food - steamed fish, pumpkin, broccoli, basmati rice with a little sea salt, cracked pepper and lemon juice.
Do you have a tattoo - I have 4. A rose on my ankle, a green frog on my foot, ‘Cos I’m free” on my upper arm and 3 love hearts on my stomach.
What other sports did you compete in - I have competed in karate, netball, basketball and touch football.
How did you get to Olympic standard – It was my dream to be the best runner I could be from the age of 10, so being an Olympian was what I needed to become in order to achieving my goal.
What does hero mean to you – A hero to me is a human or animal that inspires me by leading by example and who unknowingly invites me to rewire my own ways and philosophies.
Who is your sporting hero – My hero when I was a young athlete was Australian 1988 Olympics gold medallist for the 400 metre hurdles was Debbie Flintoff -King.
What is your goal now that you are retired – The success of The Catherine Freeman Foundation.
You have inspired many young people to achieve their goals, what, or who inspired you? - My parents and my late sister were the first to inspire me. However nowadays I am inspired by so many people every day from all walks of life. I enjoy learning from those from the past who are no longer alive, as well as from people who are fortunate enough to have their inspiring stories in tomorrows Newspapers.
What did it feel like when you won your first Olympic medal? I was very incredibly happy but more than anything I was relieved!
